Reading Together® at Ballance School

The Manawatu Standard has published an article titled 'Parents' input builds reading skills', available here. An extract follows:

Ballance School near Pahiatua has found a way to improve its pupils' reading levels - invite their parents to school to read with them.
The school has been offering the Reading Together workshops to pupils and parents during the past term...
Staff and parents have seen a marked improvement in the children's reading levels.
Principal Vicki Maugham said the library had been full for every workshop.
"We have had an exceptional turnout for each of the four sessions."
She said the effort put in by all parties was paying off.
"The response that has been coming back to us is ‘the kids are really enjoying their reading now' and that's because the parents are putting their attention to it."
